I was taking a diet pill with ephedra. I'm pumping and dumping right now. When I is my milk safe again?

The dosage for the pill is once a day. I take it in the morning. The back up milk supply is running low and I’ll need to begin storing milk again. When I stop taking the diet pill, how may days should I wait before keeping the milk again?

hun, I would ask your Dr. everything is different in how long it stays in your system. But I would ask a Dr. just to be safe.

Pumping and dumping is a useless out of date phenomenon. When the drug (or alcohol for instance) is out your blood, it’s out of your milk. I see why you’re doing it to keep your supply up though.

You do know nursing itself is a great way to lose weight? Also, pumping and storing milk means baby isn’t getting optimum nutrition as your milk changes from day to day, week to week. Of course, if your dead set still then I would wait 24 hours since your last pill before you started up again. I found this for you.

Ephedra should not be used during breastfeeding, due to risks to the mother and child. Ephedrine crosses into breast milk and has been associated with irritability, crying, and insomnia in infants.

Ephedra takes 2-3 weeks to leave your system.

If you are ever undergoing anesthesia the doctor will always tell you to make sure that you have not used anything with ephedra or ephedrine for at least 3 weeks before your surgery as that’s how long it stays in your system
